Letters to the Duchess of Sutherland [manuscript], 1895-1917.

Balfour promises to put a candidate suggested by the duchess on a list of applicants for a vacant living, 1895; regrets that his busy schedule and "this confounded [Anglo-Boer] war" prevent him from visiting, 1900; regrets that a houseful of relatives prevents him from accepting an invitation and comments on the "depressing thought" of making speeches; and is delighted that she will be visiting as is George Wyndham, though he will have to leave for a cabinet meeting, 1917.
